HR 1439 would provide free postage to military serving in Iraq and Afghanistan
Hi Everyone! I am hoping I can solicit your help! Besides being a proud mother of U.S. Marine, I am also a member of Blue Star Mothers of Missouri.
Our group sends care packages to those serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. Our care packages include simple items like a clean pair of socks, toothpaste, kool-aid, batteries, etc.
The United States Postal Service is raising the price of the flat rate boxes that we use to send our packages from $8.40 to $9.50.
Last week we sent 84 boxes that were collected by a local elementary. It is becoming very costly to send packages to our kids serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.
A bill has been introduced that would provide for free mailing privileges for personal correspondence and parcels sent to members of The Armed Forces serving on active duty in Iraq or Afghanistan, HR 1439.
Here is a link to the bill to show that it is legitimate:

I would appreciate it if you would take a minute to send an e-mail to your House of Representative's Member and Senator expressing your support for this bill. To find your state's elected officials, enter your zip code on the left under "write your officials."
One last favor to ask: please forward this email to anyone you think might help support this cause. The kids enjoy receiving packages. It really makes their day. Now with the announcement that the Army is extending tours to 15 months and some Marines are getting ready to head back for their third and fourth tours of duty, this is the LEAST we can do. Please write your elected officials and request that they support HR 1439. Thanks very much.
Sue, a proud Marine mom.
